China has made remarkable progress in humanoid robotics in recent years, now accounting for more than half of the global robot deployment and leading the world in relevant technologies, said a national political adviser on Tuesday.

"China's robot technology has made leaps and bounds, with the gap between domestic capabilities and international advanced standards narrowing significantly," said Qiao Hong, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, at a passage interview prior to the opening session of the third session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, the country's top political advisory body.

Qiao emphasized that humanoid robots, a key manifestation of artificial intelligence and a crucial carrier of general-purpose physical AI systems, represent the cutting edge of technological evolution, adding that the "Q-series" humanoid robots, self-developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Automation, have successfully built the core technological foundation of the humanoid robot mega-factory.

"The core technological foundation compensates for the shortcomings of hardware systems through intelligent algorithms, and by fully integrating brain-like intelligence, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence technologies, it forms a core barrier," she said.

Looking to the future, Qiao noted that humanoid robots will play an increasingly significant role, and the challenges that lie ahead will not only require the mass production of robotic systems but, more critically, demand a focus on their reliability, stability, versatility, intelligence and safety.

"How to fully integrate the generalization of artificial intelligence, the stability and reliability of automation, and the systemic capabilities of robots with cutting-edge brain-like materials and technologies has become a shared dream and challenge for both scientists and entrepreneurs in this sector," Qiao added.

Looking to the future, Qiao said, "As part of China's national strategic technological force, we will continue to leverage our technological advancements and talent pools to strengthen the nation's core technological foundation and contribute to China's goal of becoming a global technological powerhouse."
