NASA's Mars Rover II launched
( 2003-07-08 14:22) (Reuters)

The Mars Exploration Rover-B takes off on the maiden flight of a Delta II 7925H9.5 rocket, at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Cape Canaveral, Florida, July 7, 2003. The Mars Exploration Rover-B will arrive on the red planet seven months later to look for answers to questions about the history of water on Mars. [Reuters]

The Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex, seen here in the Mojave Desert in southern California in an undated file photo, along with two other antenna array complexes, are expected to assist NASA with their anticipated switchboard crunch in January that should tax its ability to communicate with the world's far-flung fleet of robotic space probes. One of those probes will be NASA's second Mars rover that was launched Monday, July 7, 2003, in Cape Canaveral, Fla., after a two-week delay. [AP]
