China will continue to expand its energy production capacity, with the aim of using one percentage point in energy production growth to support two percentage points in GDP growth by the year 2020, said energy director Xu Dingming with the National Development and Reform Commission, according to latest news release on the website of the Ministry of Land and Resources.

China plans to newly build a production capacity of 1.1 billion tons of coal and 150 million kw hydraulic power generation by 2020, equivalent to the construction of a Three Gorges Project every two years, said Xu, and at the same time, oil production will be turned internationally.

On top of expanding production of coal, hydropower and oil, China will speed up development of nuclear power and new energies. Two rounds of biddings have been conducted for wind power construction, and a third one is expected in April. Four sites have been chosen nationwide for bio-power tests. Exploration of natural gas and pipeline construction will be accelerated. A trial station receiving liquefied natural gas has started work in Guangdong, and more trial stations will be set up in Fujian, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Shandong, Liaoning and Guangxi.

Xu said that China attaches great importance to the construction of supportive facilities. The State Council approved railway construction plan together with the energy plan to raise transportation capacity. Oil storage project was also started last year, and construction of the first batch of plants has been kicked off in Dalian, Qingdao, Zhenhai and Zhoushan.
